Learn how to get rid of ants using just a few simple tricks and DIY methods to chase the insects away from the house or apartment.
The best known DIY solution to get rid of ants in a smart way is to use borax and sugar bait.
Sugar attracts the ants like a magnet, is easy to carry by the working ones, and most of the ants in the nest will be affected. As with kitchen beetles, the ants will take the bait on the sugar beans in the nest, and they and all the other ants that come into contact with the mixture of substances will be killed.
Mix a borax part with three parts of powdered sugar or fine sugar (for cakes) and fill bottle caps or other small containers. Put these traps through the places where you saw the ants through the house and let them put the mixture in the nest.
If you have small animals or children and do not want to risk dangerous accidents, mix a cup of warm water with half a cup of sugar and three spoonfuls of borax. Smoothen mixed cotton wool on places downy joints in floor holes, walls, joints between pieces of furniture, etc.
Resist the temptation to kill the ants you see during this time, as they will poison the nest and kill the rest of the ants sooner.
Another effective antimicrobial solution in the house is to spray vinegar over the areas where you saw rows of ants. It erases the traces that the ants leave for their wives, so they can return where they found food.
Some ants prefer fatty foods, so you can change traps with food other than sugar.
Mix a spoonful of peanut butter with a spoonful of sugar and a teaspoon of borax and press a plastic beverage straw over the cream until it is half full. Cut the straw into several pieces and put these mini pit stops in the ants.
Powder small splatters of cinnamon or baby powder next to the holes and doors where you saw the ants get inside the house. Some types of ants do not support these substances, so you will drive them away forever.
